HS2: Pg2 A Thai Guest Bedroom
PAGE 2 - PUTTING THE PARTS OF THE ROOM TOGETHER
THE BED: The Thai look needed to be a mixture of colors and textures as I witnessed. I mixed earthy and bright colors as in their shrines. The green brocade spread grounds the color like the grass. I then layered fabrics. Across the top was a full Sari I bought in a street store. It was a pleasurable experience and a delightful treasure hunt.
THE PILLOWS:  I used the ones I already had and covered some with India fabric squares I discovered on Sukhumvit Rd. Piles of cut, beaded, mix brocaded, stitched squares were being sold. I remember the smell of the place and hearing the rain dropping on the tin roof. I stitched pieces onto pillows. Above the head of the bed, I put my ceremonial, mirrored temple flag.

Fabrics are sold neatly packaged in the markets.
For a balance in design remember Kat"s ditty:  "Something dark, something light, something shiney, something bright"

SCREEN: I decided to use my trusty three-paneled wood framed screen. I draped my long silk chakra scarves over each panel. They were used to add an exotic feeling and interest to the corner. They still had a smell I remembered. Then adding the sewn embroidered purses gave it a decorative element and a reflection of that country.

SCREEN - Layer 1
A plain wooden, 3 panel frame can be used many ways. Here it was draped with silk scarves and clothing.
A close up of a wonderful hand crafted purse over an embroidered sheer curtain.
WINDOW: Yards and yards of a purple voile Sari were draped over the window as a window treatment. This method came with the folding of sheer fabrics I saw on shrines everywhere. No sewing was needed. A Sari has edges already finished. It was folded in a 1/3 and clips placed every 8 inches. The sides fell in a natural draped form. The room light was not changed, just the visual
SCREEN - Layer 2
Be sure your scarves, tablecloths, dresser scarves or family heirlooms are neatly ironed. these are just draped not pinned. My color fit with my bed combinations. Texture is now needed
SCREEN  - Layer 3
Scarves are now layered for texture, color, shape interest. the shiney and bright surfaces are condidered. The mixture of opaque and sheer fabrics add interest.
