Wood’s family was stationed in Europe after the war as part of the 1946 occupation in Germany, and then in France in the mid 50's. His fascination for the old French oil painted landscapes started as a boy with a painting in the attic. It depicted the river in the village of Ardente France near where he lived. Trying to imagine how it was painted became his life’s work. Although he had an undergraduate degree, his first one man show was in college. He aspired to match the work of his favorite artists/ mentors J. S. Sargent, Howard Pyle, N.C. Wyeth, Dean Cornwell and others. Today Wood is represented by fine art galleries, featured in Southwest Art Magazine, and has won numerous awards since 1998 for his impressionistic oil painting style. As a Florence resident, you can find him out painting nature or in his studio from sun up to sun down. These days he holds workshops and teaches locally at LCC Eugene and newly formed Brown Dog Antiques Art Center in Florence where he now inspires his students.
