Clean Clutter with Six-Sense Style

Sorting clutter: Simply tell your story
Everyone has a story and we measure its importance by our six senses. This is how we see, hear, smell, taste, touch and just sense our environment. You can pick up an object and these senses activate immediately. We may hear music, see a color, or remember the feel of the water with a shell in our hand. Sorting through what others insensitively call clutter can be painful. No item has been collected without a reason. Maybe when sorting, the question to really ask is, “Does the reason it was collected still make sense for me to see?” You still have the emotion of it and it is just as real. I know we all collect things; some buy and store more than most. So spring is a perfect energetic time in nature’s cycle to clean up and clear out. Nature teaches that for rebirth to take place a space must be emptied. It is the law of balance.

Clean up with Six-Sense Style
My method may be new to you but it is an easy, fun and very affordable way to mix and match home décor using your six-sense filters. Gather the objects that fit how you want to feel, and display them in story groups representing an intention for that room – your “Feel Good” idea. Using your six-sense filter package you can reuse what you already own. By mentally repurposing and energetically recycling treasured objects, you will bring a room to natural balance. This means your mind will not fight what it sees. It accepts it because it can run through the six-sense filters and locate that feeling. When your visual story matches your senses, there is no mental fight to confuse you. You eliminate the con-fused energy in that space. You feel the balance because the familiarity in the room makes sense. Not to mention you can save money in redecorating with your own style. Here is the process to get you started.

Look at four spaces for change.

Personal Space – Your closet, drawers, bedroom storage

Home Space – Room by room décor

Work Space – Organization of projects, documentation décor of work space

World Space – Support with earth friendly ideas

STORY IN A BOX

Step 1 - Build Story Boxes

You will create boxes to categorize the décor of objects by eras and time segments. Use countries (Asian, African), specific years (Victorian 50’s -80’s?), seasonal looks (spring, Easter, Thanksgiving), and family experiences (the seashore, a vacation, family tree) to separate items.

Step 2 - Design a story for each room

Start with one room at a time (your existing room design vs. future room when it is “KatStyled”) to “Feel Good”.

Change will happen in four ways: 1) Your story fits the next three months; 2) Your objects fit the present season (usually three months to a season); 3) You need 3 boxes for sorting; 4) Respect others. Only touch your objects, not those living with you. Always ask to move something.

Sort What Stays – Box 1

Find the objects that:

“Feel Good” first

Honor you in some way

Bring you to your present moment intention

Define a stronger part of your life

You can put a new spin on what they mean to you now

Include those living with you (if you share a household, consult with everyone)

Sort What Goes – Box 2

Eliminate the object if:

You dislike something – it upsets you

It has too much story – less is more powerful as intentional space

It has a negative memory connected to your senses

It disconnects you from nature (plastic vs. natural)

Sort What is Displayed Now – Box 3

Define each room’s sense of purpose

Find objects that fit all six senses: (look for colors, textures, shapes, eras,

relationships); objects to fit the season

For loved objects to store, there will be extra boxes

You will rotate these stories as new intentions are created.

You can now break these up by season. Mark them clearly

Seasonal categories to sort by (holiday decor, colors, events, weather, timeframe)

How to stage Six-Sensual props

Objects should be cleaned to accept a new energy (it clears negativity)

Transform the use or feeling of the object to fit your “Feel Good” intention

Group objects with a new purpose to create a new feeling

Connect to the season’s energy – bring nature indoors
